Cub Scout Leader Basic Training
Cub Scout Leader Basic Training is a training course for Cubmasters,
Cub Scout den leaders, Webelos den leaders, Tiger Cub coaches, den
leader coaches, their assistants, pack committee members, and all
other Cub Scout leaders.
Purpose
Trained Cub Scout leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for
boys. When leaders understand the whys and hows of Cub
Scouting, they are more effective in their roles. Trained leaders
know how to use the available resources to provide an exciting and
worthwhile program for the boys. Trained leaders also have confidence
in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. As a result, Cub
Scouts receive a program designed to achieve Scouting's aims of citizenship
training, character development, and personal fitness.
Methods of Training
The Cub Scout Leader Training manual contains the information
needed for the three methods of training: group training, personal
coaching, and self-study.
Group basic training courses may be conducted as a five-hour, half-day
course, or in two evening sessions, depending on local needs and resources.
Basic Training may also be delivered by personal coaching using the
guidelines found in Cub Scout Leader Training.
Leaders can study the literature on their own using the Cub Scout
Leader Basic Training Self-Study Guide.
Highlights
The training has been written with the Cub Scout Leader Book
as the principal reference. Other resources are also used and discussed.
Training posters and a five-program videotape have been designed
for use with training.
